POSITION SUMMARY:

The Locksmith will be responsible for all doors, door devices, locks, security devices, access systems, key control, and related records for the Marion Campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. He/she will report to and work with the Manager for Building Information Systems, Facilities Services. We are seeking an experienced tradesman, a skilled technician, a competent database administrator, a conscientious organizer, and a servant leader of personal integrity and responsibility.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to Manager Building Information Systems, Facilities Services

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree

Certification Required: Certifications Required: Member of professional bonding organization. Preferred: Certification of a Locksmith program (such as a Certified Institutional Locksmith)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide day-to-day leadership for the Lock and Doors Shop.
Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping and data reporting for the shop.
Communicate with the Warehouse staff to order needed supplies and materials.
Manage one or more student workers, as needed.
Coordinate with other maintenance shops within Facilities Services.
Accomplish other tasks as necessary to accomplish the mission and objectives of IWU.
Electronic Access, Locksmith, and Door Maintenance functions.
Oversee Schlage IC core lock system with approximately 7,000 doors on the Marion Campus.
Oversee Electronic Access system for Marion Campus.
Coordinate the issue of keys and electronic access and changes of locks/access
Manage the Electronic Access system (appox. 6,000 users)
and the Key Control database (approx.. 20,000 keys). Ensure up-to-date data entry in these systems.
Periodically audit to insure the accuracy and integrity of these records.
Oversee maintenance and repair of keys, locks, latches, door hardware, ADA door openers, etc.
Support training and education of campus
personnel on the use of automatic door openers, keys, and electronic access--etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Manage one or more student workers, as needed. Coordinate with other maintenance shops within Facilities Services.

3-5 years of experience in locksmithing or related industry
Prior experience managing door hardware, security and/or access control systems

Morse Watchman key control boxes

Required Skills:

Possessing a General understanding of door hardware, security and access control systems-including electronic access

Perform journeyman level installation, repair and maintenance of locks, door closures, panic hardware systems and electronic locking systems; recombinate and adjust locks, including coding, key cutting and duplication.

Work Performed
Install, repair and maintain all major types of locks, door closures,and panic hardware systems including but to limited to keycard and electro magnetic systems to conform with current federal, state and local safety and security regulations.
Assist in the installation of electronic and other special locking systems for University buildings and facilities;

perform complex repairs and update records as required.

Estimate time and materials required for repair and renovation projects;

Open locks by use of lock picking tools, dismantling or other methods;

Utilize key cutting machines, drills, saws, buffers and grinders, key gauges and locksmith tools.

Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel.

Position Summary

3. Shall be responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.
4. Assist in and able to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production lines and associated assigned systems. Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Education Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must possess a strong mechanical and electrical maintenance background.
Maintenance on food processing and packaging equipment is preferred.
Knowledge of production machinery repair, troubleshooting, pneumatic/hydraulic and electrical/electronic skills.
SAP experience is highly desired.
Ammonia Training is a plus.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize work across multiple tasks in a highly demanding and fast paced environment.
Qualified candidates will possess at least (2) years of experience in a maintenance capacity.
This position requires regular and prompt attendance during the working hours scheduled by the Department Supervisor.
Entrance into the Maintenance Department requires passing a maintenance exam. If hired, a 3rd grade boiler license for the City of Omaha must be obtained within two (2) years from the date of hire.
Applicants must have excellent communication skills and enjoy working in a team atmosphere with a strong desire to learn new skills and grow their career.

There is a post in the employment section for a locksmith position with
the CDCR (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation).
Actually there are multiple positions available.

The State has recently opened up testing and is taking applications
for all the prisons. This is the first time in over 20 years I have seen
testing opened up like this. Usually the testing is only for specific
areas or individual prisons.

I have worked as an institutional locksmith in CDCR since 1993.
In that time the state has had trouble recruiting qualified people.
I think many are apprehensive about the prison environment.
While those concerns are understandable I do not believe they
are warranted.

I have a vested interest in trying to recruit qualified candidates.
The facility where I am currently employed is currently in need
of a second locksmith.

It seems like there are always 4 or 5 vacancies at any given time.
The state has 33 prisons so there are many opportunities if you
wish to pursue one.
