Jack Walder CJIL,CRL
ILA President

Hello All,

My name is Jack Walder, and I am proud and honored to serve as the new President of this great organization. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with all of you to implement the many great ideas and programs which I believe will continue to grow this organization and make the Institutional Locksmiths' Association even better than it is now.

The purpose of the Institutional Locksmiths' Association is to offer you, the institutional locksmith, a resource for continuing education, skills certification testing, and the ability to network with your colleagues; to share your ideas and support one another. One of my biggest priorities is to work with you and your facilities supervisors and administrators to help them recognize that you, the in-house locksmiths, are experts in your field, with the compensation and benefits that come with such recognition. We as an organization must lobby for your continuing education, and provide you with the best testing so that you can secure the certifications that will help your administrators view us as the professionals we are.

This is an exciting time for the Institutional Locksmiths' Association and its members. We must continue and move forward, to give a voice to our membership, to create value for our manufacturers and distributors, and raise our association to a higher level of professionalism, one that will be recognized by all.

In todays turbulent and violent world we are the first line of defense! Our students, patients, faculty, and staff look to us for professional, modern solutions to their security needs. We are more than just the locksmiths of yesterday! With the complexities of the many security issues we are faced with: multi-level master key systems, life safety and fire codes adherence, and the administration of large key control programs, we have become more than locksmiths; we are Security Specialists.

I challenge you to help me take this Association to the next level, where our standards are the industry standards; where our certifications will be required and recognized by your employers for proper compensation for your service. This is an interactive association; your involvement is going to be necessary to carry this association forward and to help it grow.

Talk to your supervisors about the importance of joining this association and taking classes. Get your certifications. This not only benefits your facilities, but helps with your own personal growth. Participate in your chapters, get involved and share your knowledge, your tricks and tips. Talk to your colleagues about the benefits of becoming a member. By doing this, we will continue the tradition that was started twenty five years ago and move boldly on into the next century.

My door is always open for ideas, suggestions and concerns. I thank you for allowing me to serve this prestigious membership, and its future members. I can be contacted through my e-mail address, jack@ilanational.org. I look forward to hearing from you.
